We have to talk, it’s time to unpack the good china, seriously.
Today as I went through my own closet, during a spring cleaning burst motivated by the warmer weather, I found a box of good china. I knew it was there, I just kept thinking I’d wait to use it someday special. Inside I found the same four place settings in what can only be described gold filigree gone wild.
I wish I loved them but I don’t (and my best guess is Great Grandma Millie didn’t like them either) or they’d be well worn with chips and not still boxed in pristine condition.
So I had a decision to make A keep them which would mean leaving them boxed up in my closet or B do something else with them.
I went with option B do something else with them, but what?
After a little pondering inspiration struck! Four sisters and four tea cups- perfect! I got crafty and poured melted candle wax into the cups to make candles. My sisters will be thrilled when I gift them on Easter.
I then decided to use a salad bowl as a holiday centerpiece and promptly filled it with jelly beans. Honestly the bunch of sugar-coma inducing beans mounded in the bowl disguised the overwhelming amount of gold.
Then came the difficult part, the rest of the set. Sure I was able to bring myself to break up the set, I figure my relatives would rather I use it then let it sit on the shelf for a special occasion. But what about the rest?
I checked Replacements, Ltd. and sure enough they needed a few of my pieces. It felt nice knowing someone could complete a set with my left overs.
It is such a relief to have that box out of the closet. I have a lovely teacup candle and every time I see the candle I feel great. No more feeling guilty and no more waiting for someday, today was my someday special- – will it be yours?
