And the one tip that didn’t make the cheat sheet: stop saving items to sell at a garage sale you’re never going to host :)

If you’re calendar is already cluttered chances are hosting a garage sale is not on the top of your to-do list. So what are you supposed to do with all those items you set aside hoping garage sale inspiration would strike?

Here are are a few ideas to put cash in your pocket or to give you relief by simply sharing  the items:

www.Amazon.com to trade-in items like books, music, movies, video games, electronics and small appliances.
Or give the items to someone through www.Freecycle.org

Sometimes simply letting the item go is the best choice of all: choose time to enjoy your life rather than hosting a garage sale.

3 Steps to Trade In Your Clutter

Which of these do you have that you can trade in for cash?

  • Books you’ll never read
  • Books you’ll never re-read
  • Textbooks
  • Cookbooks
  • DVDs
  • CDs
  • Video Games
  • Electronics

New or used there is a good chance Amazon.com wants to buy them from you!

Amazon.com trade in is NOT the same as selling your item on Amazon. When you sell an item you need to wait and hope a buyer shows up.

The trade in option guarantees your item will sell since Amazon.com tells you how much they will credit your account when you send the item to them today.

3 Steps to Trade-In on Amazon.com

1. Log on to Amazon.com and type in the ISBN number of your item

2. Find the ‘Trade In’ button on the right hand side (available if they’re currently accepting your item- check back often they are constantly updating their database)

3. Print the postage paid shipping label, tape it to your envelope and mail the package to Amazon.com

In about a week look for an email from Amazon.com letting you know your package has been received and your account has been credited.

Don’t Do This!

I know it’s tempting to take a bunch of clutter off your bookshelves and toss it in a box to enter into Amazon later.

That’s a recipe for disaster; later will never come and you’ll only end up overwhelming yourself.

Instead grab one or two items and head to the computer. Avoiding distractions like Facebook and Email simply log onto Amazon.com and enter the first ISBN number.

You Don’t Have to Do It All

If logging into Amazon to look for items you can trade in is not something you know you’ll enjoy doing then consider hiring out the job. Check with neighbors to find a local teen that does lawn care or babysitting for extra cash, you might be able to hire him or her to do the work for you.

That’s it! Try trading in a little clutter today!
