Ready for a little more joy in your life? Here are three simple ways to sprinkle a little more joy around…
1. Engage completely
We all multi-task so often it can be a challenge to focus on one thing, but doing just that can make our loves a lot more joyful.
Whether you are stirring sauce on the stove, answering an email or knitting a sweater, do it with 100% of your focus and attention. You’ll notice your breathing deepens, your muscles relax and you feel more centered or balanced.
2. Tune it all out (even for just 1 minute)
I think we’ve all heard the long list of benefits to meditating and maybe you’ve even given it a try. Challenge is when you already have a three page to-do list it can be difficult to consider adding yet another task to your list. Then there’s that pesky feeling you might not do it right.
Instead of putting pressure on yourself to meditate for thirty minutes each day (which may be what you work up to) try shutting your eyes for just a minute- – really just 60 seconds. Breathe and let your mind go blank. Every time a distracting thought pops into your head, and they will, refocus on blank.
3. Recite history
Turns out sharing stories about your life makes us more joyful. Place treasures, like family photos or other meaningful memorabilia in your home. Each time you see it you’ll be more joyful.
A fantastic way to share stories with others is to host a photo album party. You can invite family and or friends to bring a stack of photos and an album. Sit around the table and share stories while filling your albums, something that has probably been on your to-do list for a very long time. Checking a long term task off your to-do list- – now that’s joyful!
